North Oxfordshire Cottage

This charming cottage started its life in 1883. Located in North Oxfordshire, it is constructed from Hornton stone found locally to this particular area of the country. The property is set breathtakingly on a crest overlooking an undulating valley and has a charming elegance that reflects its place and period.

MIDA Interiors were commissioned to formulate a cohesive decorative scheme for the entire renovation, whilst at the same time injecting a bit of slick modernity to reflect the creative, nature loving family who live there.

Although beautifully presented and proportioned, the house needed to evolve to fit the modern lifestyles of the current owners. A renovation at the exterior of the property was undertaken, to include a two storey addition. Reorganising the arrangement and layout of the first floor began which developed a new master suite with vaulted ceilings, Juliet balcony, new ensuite bathroom and dressing room area. The family bathroom was reimagined, whilst still retaining the Jack and Jill entry. A new oak lean-to conservatory was constructed in oak with stone footings and built to open into the Kitchen and Living room areas, vastly improving the flow and feeling of light and space on the existing ground floor. The entire extension was sympathetically added to the existing building seamlessly.

Finishes to include new stone and wood floors added, ironmongery on interior doors and new windows selected as well as considered and cohesive colours chosen for new guttering, down pipes and window finishes externally to work alongside the magnificent Hornton Stone.

The Kitchen is certainly the hub of this family’s life and thus has been thoughtfully designed and hand built to their exacting specifications, requirements and wish list. The calming space hides a multitude of high specification appliances, hidden from sight in restful shades of blue and neutral tones.

Overall, this property truly reflects the owners personalities and sense of fun, whilst giving them the restful retreat that they enjoy as a family and which works with their busy modern lives.
